The crown jewel of any beekeeper is the Langstroth hive. It's a hive that meets the needs of the swarm and the apiculturist alike. It consists of a <a href="handbook://block-fromgoldencombs:langstrothbase-ebony-baldcypress-east">base</a>, one or more <a href="handbook://block-fromgoldencombs:langstrothsuper-closed-ebony-baldcypress-east">supers</a> (you can have up to three on a base) filled with up to 10 <a href="handbook://item-fromgoldencombs:beeframe-ebony-lined">lined frames</a> each, and topped with a <a href="handbook://block-fromgoldencombs:langstrothbrood-ebony-baldcypress-maple-east">populated brood box.</a>. Once settled in, your bees will produce the most honey and wax of all the hives, and will provide the best boost to your crop.<br><br><font align="center"><strong>Step 1 - Gathering Your Materials</strong></font><br><br>The Langstroth hive is not a beginners hive, it requires acquiring materials from your fields, an investment wax from your current hives, and wooden boards to build your first one. These are just boards that have been soaked in wax in a barrel. 1 wax will turn 4 boards into four panels, and you'll need a total of 27 boards to get yourself started. <br><br>You're also going to need to line some bee <a href="handbook://item-fromgoldencombs:beeframe-ebony-empty">frames</a> while you're at it, so while you're soaking those boards throw a piece of linen into a barrel with one piece of wax. This will create waxed linen, which you can convert into five frame liners with a knife.<br><br><font align="center"><strong>The Rack And The Frames Come Next</strong></font><br><br>You'll want to make your <a href="handbook://block-fromgoldencombs:framerack-oak-pine-east">frame rack</a> and bee <a href="handbook://item-fromgoldencombs:beeframe-ebony-empty">frames</a> next, since you'll need them to make your hive useful. Once you've constructed your <a href="handbook://block-fromgoldencombs:framerack-oak-pine-east">frame rack</a> and bee <a href="handbook://item-fromgoldencombs:beeframe-ebony-empty">frames</a>, place the empty ones in the <a href="handbook://block-fromgoldencombs:framerack-oak-pine-east">frame rack</a>. Take the <a href="handbook://block-fromgoldencombs:langstrothbrood-ebony-baldcypress-maple-east">brood box.</a> top you made, and use it on one to turn it into a Broodbox. It's pattern will match that of the super you're making it from. You can use a populated skep on it now to introduce your swarm, or you can wait until your hive is assembled, the choice is yours. <br><br><i><strong>Be aware that once the swarm is in the <a href="handbook://block-fromgoldencombs:langstrothbrood-ebony-baldcypress-maple-east">brood box.</a>, it will only fit in a bag slot, not your inventory slot!</i></strong><br><br> <font align="center"><strong>And A Place For Them To Work</strong></font><br><br>Now place the other <a href="handbook://block-fromgoldencombs:langstrothsuper-closed-ebony-baldcypress-east">super</a> on the ground and right click it's top. The top will slide back and reveal the compartment where you can place your lined bee <a href="handbook://item-fromgoldencombs:beeframe-ebony-lined">frames</a>. You can place the five <a href="handbook://item-fromgoldencombs:beeframe-ebony-lined">lined frames</a> inside by rightclicking it with a frame. You'll notice there's extra space for five more. Each <a href="handbook://block-fromgoldencombs:langstrothsuper-closed-ebony-baldcypress-east">super</a> can hold 10 <a href="handbook://item-fromgoldencombs:beeframe-ebony-lined">frames</a>, but you can put in any number it will hold and your bees will be happy. <br><br><i>One note: <a href="handbook://block-fromgoldencombs:langstrothsuper-closed-ebony-baldcypress-east">Supers</a> will not accept <a href="handbook://item-fromgoldencombs:beeframe-ebony-empty">empty frames</a> as they cannot be used to produce comb. Then just pick up your broodbox and put it on top. While the ceramic hive and skep can only produce one harvest each before you have to reset them (by destroying the skep or clearing the honey pot), the Langstroth hive can go for multiple cycles before it's full. Even with a single full super, it will take between 3 and 5 weeks to fill every frame.<br><br>When you're ready to harvest them, you simply take your hive apart by removing the broodbox and your <a href="handbook://block-fromgoldencombs:langstrothsuper-closed-ebony-baldcypress-east">super</a>. Open the top, take out your <a href="handbook://item-fromgoldencombs:beeframe-ebony-harvestable">harvestable frames</a>, and take them to the <a href="handbook://block-fromgoldencombs:framerack-oak-pine-east">frame rack</a>. Place them in it, and use a knife on them to harvest your comb. <a href="handbook://item-fromgoldencombs:beeframe-ebony-lined">lined frames</a> only last so long, and every harvest will do some damage to the frames.
